Installation, Performance
City Halls of Berlin, 1999
As a petitioning deputy
the performer acts in the city halls of Berlin. She kicks, she kneels, she slides on her knees along the long corridors
of institutions. A religious ritual is transferred into profane space: individual submission within institutional systems.

Unresolved emotional or psychological states
can be experienced physically, and if left unchecked, they can bring someone to a complete standstill. The Kneeling Stop Block is placed in spaces that represent humiliation or powerlessness such as office doors or other humiliating situations. It acts as a prompt for the individual to reflect on their position, encouraging them to break free from the humbling situation and regain their power or dignity by standing up again.
