[Performative Urban Research]
The Community City is composed of a multitude of individuals and the associations they form into a community. Each individual is characterized by numerous thoughts, emotions, attitudes, and visions (personal, inherited, or adopted) that shape and materialize. Each of these elements manifests as an atmosphere within the city’s structure… constantly overlapping, from seconds to hours, to days, and extending over centuries…

[Performative CityScan]
Atmospheres of the city can be captured through Performative CityScans. Passers-by serve as seismographs, embodying and making perceptible the ephemeral atmospheres through perception and performative movement notation. These are read in analogy to early forms of signage, capable of deciphering the archetypical sign systems. The Performative CityScan is a method for knowledge generation concerning the Community City, while also serving as a reflection in action. Throughout the entire development process, it allows not only the capture and understanding of urban atmospheres, but simultaneously their generation and shaping. Performed CityMaps are embodied, layered experiences of positioning, interventions, and negotiations. To those who can read them, they reveal much about urban atmospheres.
