Culture understood by Performances. Culture is (per-)formed through actions. In recent years, Berlin’s salon culture has been revived. As a participatory format, it offers an interesting contemporary alternative to traditional exhibition and event formats for the exchange of cultural topics. Patricia Hoeppe concepted and started 5 performing salons at Salonkultur Schätzchen /Prenzlauer Berg Berlin, which are based on the cultural understanding of Cultural Performances, namely that culture is constituted through action.

[9/11 In Be-Tween Terror]

2021-09-11. The images of 9/11 not only triggered global movements of terror and escape, but they have also been burned into our emotional memory, continuously provoking actions that are not free. On the occasion of the anniversary, these images were brought out of our memory, shared with others, and liberated in a relaxed salon atmosphere.

[I-Can-Breathe]

2021-09-21. The pandemic period of COVID-19 took away our voice and breath—these need to be reclaiming performatively through an act of self-empowerment.

[Performance Parcours Doing Climate]

2021-10-23 Human-caused global warming—through the use of fossil fuels, deforestation, and livestock farming (consumption)—is leading to the melting of the Arctic. As a result, reduced temperature contrasts and the slowing down of the so-called jet stream lead to stationary weather events such as heatwaves, heavy rainfall, and flooding. We know all this—how can we motivate each other to adopt climate-just actings? This Performance Parcours through Berlin Prenzlauer Berg starts with some settlements…
